Punch Walls To Escape Beginner Guide: What to Do First
Punch walls, pick up the rubble, sell it at the grinder and upgrade your fists — the loop every Punch Walls To Escape run starts with, plus what the tutorial teaches, where your first cash goes and what unlocks next.
Every run in Punch Walls To Escape runs on one simple loop, and it carries you from your first punch in a cell to the exit five floors up. If you want a small head start, it is also worth checking the current Punch Walls To Escape codes before you begin.
Quick answer
Punch the walls around you to start breaking out, pick up the rubble that falls, sell it at the grinder, and upgrade your fists. Repeating that loop is how you make progress toward escaping all 5 floors.

Your first run, step by step
- Punch the walls around you. You start locked in the prison, and breaking walls is how you open new paths toward the exit. Any wall you can reach is fair game.
- Pick up the rubble. The walls you break leave rubble behind. Collect it as you go — the game shows a bag counter that fills as you carry more.
- Sell the rubble at the grinder. The grinder is specifically where the rubble you collect from broken walls turns into cash.
- Upgrade your fists. Spend that cash at the upgrade area. Upgrading your fists is what unlocks the Sledgehammer, TNT and Vacuum, which help you move through harder walls.
- Work your way up through the floors. Each floor stands between you and the exit. Keep the loop running — break, collect, sell, upgrade — until you have escaped all 5 floors, then aim for your best time.
The loop feeds itself: stronger fists and better tools break tougher walls, and selling the rubble you collect keeps paying for the next upgrade.
What the tutorial shows in your first minutes
Watch the original gameplay video.
The game walks new players through the loop with on-screen prompts. In one recorded first session they appeared in this order:
- PUNCH THE WALL 1/5
- AIM AT RUBBLE AND PRESS RT — while the bag capacity counter filled up
- SELL YOUR RUBBLE AT THE GRINDER
- A SELL area with an OPEN UPGRADES prompt next to it
Selling ends with a confirmation message — that session showed "Sold 150 rubble for $1.50!", which is one example of how a sale reads rather than a fixed rate.
The RT and Y prompts in that recording were controller prompts, so your platform may show different prompts for the same steps.
Where your first cash goes
Two things are worth spending on early:
- Tools from the shop. In one recorded first run, the shop sold tools and offered an option to buy one permanently alongside the regular purchase — worth noticing before you commit your money.
- Fist and power upgrades at the upgrade area. The same session put money into both, and upgrading the fists is what opens the way to the better tools.
Exact prices aren't covered here — sell a few bags of rubble and check what the shop and upgrade area charge. For the full lineup, see the Punch Walls To Escape all tools page.
After the loop: gems, vaults and friends
A few things sit alongside the basic loop as you climb:
- Rare blocks and vaults can be smashed for gems, so keep an eye out for them while breaking walls.
- The goal is to escape all 5 floors, and harder walls on the way up are exactly what the Sledgehammer, TNT and Vacuum are for. The all five floors guide covers the climb.
- You can play solo or with up to 4 friends — team up to share the escape, or try to beat your best time alone. See how to play with friends.

Tips
Break more than the wall ahead
Punch walls to open new paths through the prison — every wall is a way out.
Empty your bag at the grinder
Rubble only becomes money once you sell it, so make the grinder a regular stop.
Smash vaults and rare blocks
They can be smashed for gems, on top of the rubble you are already collecting.
Chase your best time
Once a run clicks, try to escape faster — solo or with friends.
And when the loop is second nature, the Punch Walls To Escape how to escape faster guide picks up where this one ends.
